Meet Karen Jolly, Owner of Eskeez Thermals
Q: Can you tell us a little about your business?
A: I founded Eskeez in 2009, having failed to find an effective thermal solution to keep my sons warm whilst playing sport. Our thermal base layers are the modern answer to an age-old problem; an ultra-lightweight thermal base layer that protects from the coldest conditions, allowing breathability and free movement with the greatest of comfort. The products are warm even when wet, so are suitable for an almost endless list of activities outdoors and in cold environments.
Q: What makes Eskeez special?
A: Eskeez outperforms even the top brands to provide outstanding thermal value in wet or dry environments. We originally thought the business would be aimed at the independent schools sector (keeping the chill out of children) but the demand quickly expanded to other sports such as golf, motorcycling, equestrian activities and swimming. We also supply to numerous baby swim schools such as Waterbabies and Turtle Tots, keeping both instructors and babies warm in the water.
Q: What attracted you to the programme and what are you looking forward to?
A: It is very flattering to have been invited to join the programme – the calibre of the business mentors and fellow entrepreneurs makes it a very stimulating environment. I am really looking forward to having interaction with the other candidates, especially since running your own company from home can be a solitary business!
Q: What are your business goals for the next 6-12 months?
A: My goal for Eskeez in the near term is to take on the challenge of growing the business in what are very tough trading conditions, exacerbated by Covid-19.
Q: What do you think makes Somerset a great place to do business?
A: Somerset is a good place to do business as many talented people are to be found where you least expect them!
